Orin J. Mazzoni Jr. took over the family business from his father in 1969. He obtained his title of Graduate Gemologist from the Gemological Institute of America in 1977, and has continued to be a leader in the jewelry and gemology field. He is a Certified Gemologist Appraiser from the American Gem Society, has served as the president of the Michigan Jewelers and of the Michigan Retailers Association, and is an active member of the GIA Alumni Association Michigan Chapter, as well as being a leader within the community.

Joyce Pappas is a Registered Jeweler of the AGS, as is Matt Tatro, a member of the Orin's family for over twenty years. The American Gem Society sets the standards for excellence through education and requires yearly examinations to hold these titles.

Maria Buffone, our customer service manager, has the highest degree given from the Gemological Institute of America: Graduate Jeweler Gemologist. This title means that she has met rigid standards of excellence in gemstone identification and diamond grading, as well as jewelry design and repair. Our newest gemologist, Gina Mazzoni, received her Graduate Gemologist degree in the summer of 2003!

Orin Jewelers is proud to be an Accredited Gem Laboratory by the American Gem Society. What this means is that we have the proper equipment and training to grade diamonds and colored gemstones, as well as provide you with professional appraisals suitable for both insurance and estate purposes. Since subtle differences in quality can mean thousands of dollars, it is essential that you choose an establishment that has the proper equipment as well as the proper training. At Orin's we have three microscopes, three master diamond color grading sets, diamond scales, as well as other tools to evaluate the identity and value of colored gemstones.

Orin Jewelers is also a member of the Independent Jewelers Organization, the largest diamond buying group in the world. Orin Jr. and Joyce have traveled with the IJO to the "diamond capital of the world", Antwerp, Belgium. There they were able to buy directly from the diamond houses that are normally forbidden to retail jewelers. Orin's also travels to all major trade shows searching for new designs and fashions to fill their showcase.

We believe that it is important to stretch out into the community and join professional groups that are associated with high ethical standards and support the continued growth of business and the community. That is why we are members of the Jewelers Vigilance Committee, Garden City and Northville Chambers of Commerce, and the Better Business Bureau, as well as other local groups that serve the community.
